Enrichment and Trips
We pride ourselves on the varied, educational and fun trips, residentials and enrichment activities that we provide for the children in addition to our core curriculum offer. We believe that such events have a very important role to play in our children’s education.
We aim to put on two trips per term for each student, ensuring that the experiences tie in directly to what the students are studying that term as well as offering plenty of fun! Children from Year 3 upwards participate in an overnight residential every year, in addition to termly activities and day trips. We like to ensure that the trips open up new opportunities to the children to try something that they haven’t necessarily experienced before. We are also keen that we offer trips and additional activities to our Preschool children.
Our trips programme is diverse. The highlight has to be our end of year 2 night residential to London (for Years 5 and 6 students from Kings Nympton and Year 6 students from Winkleigh). The children experience a variety of events, including a West End show, a trip to parliament and we are hoping for a trip to Harry Potter World and the London Eye. Our Year 6s also enjoy a surf residential in the summer term as their primary journey draws to a close. Younger children participate in more local trips, including the Queen’s Theatre in Barnstaple and RHS Rosemoor in Torrington. For Key Stage 2, The Eden Project, Skern Lodge, Rock and Rapid and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter - amongst others.
As well as trips and residentials, we also organise enrichment programmes on-site. These could be sport, drama, music or subject-focused or indeed just a treat activity.
We work very hard to ensure that the trips, programmes and events we put on represent exceptional value. The financial support we receive from the Friends of the School enables us to cost these events as effectively as possible with the price to families being substantially lower than the actual trip costs. Particularly expensive trips, such as the London Residential, are costed a year in advance and payment plans put in place for families to help with budgeting.
